Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its result. We do not keep a local log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or other direct message long enough to respond and handle the exchange. It is not shared outside our organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, server logs can collect routine technical details about the visit:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure traffic, page use, and exit patterns. Analytics providers can combine those events into aggregate reports. A browser can block cookies, although some features may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
- Sending your search requests to the right partner service
- Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
- Tracking down and fixing technical issues
- Showing ads that may line up with your interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. The site describes how to reach Virginia Beach City agencies, the courts, Virginia Department of State Police, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles, and this operation is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to information submitted through those tools. Review the provider's policy before running a search because this policy does not control that processing.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to VBSO, VBPD, Virginia courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy governs. Review it before providing personal details.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to track activity across websites and select ads.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be handled by:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Standard safeguards are used for collected data, but no internet system can guarantee perfect security. Reasonable steps reduce risk without eliminating the chance of unauthorized access.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. Information known to have come from a minor will be removed.
Your Data Rights
Virginia law, including the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, governs public-body records, while Virginia Code § 19.2-389 limits dissemination of CCRE criminal-history information. Those laws do not turn this private site into a public agency or repository. Depending on applicable privacy law, a visitor may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
